Superintendent spotlights first student advisory council; NCHS orchestra invited to Chicago festival
Summary
Superintendent Dr. Eloy introduced the district’s first student advisory council and recognized several students; NCHS orchestra director Lincoln Hall announced students were selected to perform at the Percy Grainger Festival in Chicago in 2027.
Superintendent Dr. Eloy used her Jan. 13 report to introduce the district’s first student advisory council, saying the newly formed group includes student representatives from nearly every school (capped at fifth grade at one school) and that members discussed facilities, dress code, mental health and cafeteria menu items. Dr. Eloy quoted one student who described the meeting as "pretty fire," and invited the students forward for recognition and a group photo.
Separately, Lincoln Hall, orchestra director at Natchitoches Central High School, told the board that the orchestra was invited to perform at the Percy Grainger Festival at Chicago’s Symphony Hall in 2027. Hall said the trip will include performance clinics and sightseeing opportunities; funding will come from participants and orchestra fundraisers, and staff thanked the board for continued support of arts programming.
Board members applauded the student representatives and thanked the orchestra director for the presentation.
