Hamilton County lieutenant reports few local crimes but warns of identity‑fraud and jury‑duty scams

Lieutenant Jeremy DePoli of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department gave Crosby Township trustees a monthly report noting relatively little criminal activity within township borders in December 2025, while highlighting several identity‑fraud incidents and an uptick in scam attempts.
DePoli recounted a recovered stolen stump grinder located in a homeowner’s driveway after a Westchester Police Department inquiry, identity‑fraud reports tied to out‑of‑area actors (including attempted loans and fraudulent pallet orders), and a protection‑order violation that resulted in a warrant. "When the court issues a protection order, they take that serious," he said.
He also reported seven auto crashes in December, 76 calls for service in the township and zero OVI arrests for the month. DePoli described the domestic violence enhanced response team (DVERT) program and said no DVERT activations were requested during the period.
DePoli strongly cautioned residents regarding a common scam in which fraudsters impersonate court or sheriff’s office staff and demand immediate payment via gift cards or cryptocurrency ATM machines. He repeated the sheriff’s office contact number for verification: (513) 825‑1500, and said, "If you hear any of that, we do not ask for money. We will not ask for gift cards."
Trustees thanked DePoli and had no further questions. DePoli also noted he is likely to be deployed for a few months and will confirm a liaison during his absence.
