The Greensville County School Board on Jan. 12 approved the 2026–27 school calendar, carried personnel recommendations presented in closed session, and approved routine consent items and warrants. The board also completed required closed-session certifications under the Code of Virginia.
The Greensville County School Board approved the draft 2026–27 school calendar and finalized personnel recommendations after two closed sessions during its Jan. 12 meeting.
Board chair Jesse opened the meeting and led voice votes on routine motions. After staff presented the draft calendar and described the development process—including input from school calendar representatives, virtual and in-person feedback sessions and a prior presentation at the December board meeting—the board voted to adopt the calendar. Changes noted in the presentation included treating Election Day as a remote learning day, making the Wednesday before Thanksgiving a full day off (Wednesday, Nov. 25), and adjusting the Friday before Christmas to a half day. The academic year is organized into two semesters with 90 instructional days each and scheduled pre-service and professional development days.
"It's been moved and properly second," the chair said when the calendar motion was presented, and the board recorded the motion as carried after members responded "Aye."
Following an initial closed session, the board read a certification resolution required by state law and recorded individual 'yes' votes confirming that the closed meeting complied with the Code of Virginia. After returning to open session, a board member recommended approval of personnel recommendations "as presented in closed session." The board moved, seconded and approved those personnel items by voice vote.
The board also approved the consent agenda, including minutes and warrants, by voice vote.
Dr. Fox presented the superintendent's January CAP update and highlights from the division's comprehensive strategic plan, including a literacy grant for Greensville County Elementary School to support family-focused literacy resources and plans to develop an anonymous reporting mechanism for safety concerns. The update also outlined expectations for 12-month employees during weather-related closures and listed planned professional-development dates for the coming school year.
The meeting concluded after a second closed session, a certification vote, approval of additional personnel matters presented in closed session, and a motion to adjourn.
The board scheduled interviews for superintendent candidates (see separate report) and will continue posting procedural notices as the search and budget timeline advance.
