Members set the authority’s next meeting for Wednesday, January 28, 2:00–3:30 p.m., to be hosted in a Department of Energy conference room with a virtual option. The chair said the DOE would try to provide a conference room in their new building or an alternate DGS conference room if not available, and staff confirmed the meeting would include a virtual component.
Members discussed legislative timing and asked staff to prepare a “matrix” of bills that could affect offshore wind and supply-chain issues ahead of the January meeting. A DOE staff member noted that SB25 — a workforce program and fund reintroduced by patron Foy (a bill similar to last year’s offshore wind workforce bill) — was the only offshore-wind-specific bill they had seen at the time.
DOE/state energy office staff also reported they had been notified of a conditional award for a TSED energy workforce grant that would involve the Hampton Roads workforce council; the award was still intact but not finalized, and staff said they would continue outreach and update the authority at the January meeting.
Members asked staff to provide bill lists at least 24 hours before the next meeting so members could review them in advance, and suggested inviting offtakers or institutional customers (for example, Virginia Wesleyan University’s president was mentioned as a potential presenter) to speak at a future meeting about demand-side commitments.
The meeting concluded with no public comments; the chair adjourned the session with holiday wishes.
