Commission supports applying for Fishbearer construction grants, with match caveat

At the Jan. 12 briefing, utilities and waste management staff asked the commission to apply for construction funding for six Fishbearer projects that previously completed preliminary engineering and design. "We have 6 applicants, that have been previously approved for PE work, and we've done the design. And so now we'd like to apply for the construction of these projects," a utilities staff member said.
Commissioners expressed support for submitting grant applications but cautioned staff to flag match obligations. Utilities staff said if an award is offered and the county faces a challenge meeting the required match, the commission would be notified and the match issue would be brought back for decision.
The commission gave consensus support to apply for construction grant funding; staff will return with details on any impending match obligations if awards are received.
