House Judiciary Committee delays page-5 discussion, schedules public-defender testimony and votes next week

Unidentified Speaker (S1) opened the House Judiciary Committee meeting and said a discussion on page 5 scheduled for 1:00 p.m. will be postponed until next week after additional testimony is heard. He said the committee had 'somehow lost Ned Stevens' agenda' and expects to reschedule the item for Thursday at 1 p.m.
S1 said the testimony list will include 'somebody from the public defender's office, which I think is most critical, you know, that piece that is missing still.' He framed that testimony as necessary context before proceeding on related measures.
S1 told members that Tom will run the Tuesday afternoon session for witnesses on H578 and that H578 hearings are expected to continue into Wednesday with testimony both morning and afternoon. He said he hopes H578 can be handled in two days so the committee can address other, higher-priority items.
S1 also said his plan for Friday is to discuss bills that have been addressed and, if the committee appears ready, to vote them out. He invited members to review the agenda when it is posted and to notify staff by Monday if they want additional witnesses for any items, particularly H5.
The meeting ended with brief informal remarks and weekend well-wishes.
