Mason County public health gets Commerce extension to finish homeless housing plan rewrite

Dave Woodman of the county public health office told commissioners on Jan. 12 that the county secured an extension from the Washington State Department of Commerce through February to finish rewriting the county’s homeless housing plan and complete the required public hearing. "We got an extension from Commerce to go through the February so we can get through the rewrite of the document and finish up the hearing," Woodman said.
Woodman said he is trimming lengthy narrative sections from the existing 128-page draft while retaining the plan’s analytic tables and data; he circulated a compare-and-contrast document to show how the housing needs assessment and the plan use the same data in different ways. The plan will be reposted for public review before a final hearing. Commissioners repeatedly urged keeping the plan narrowly focused and cautioned that state budget cuts could limit the county’s ability to implement some recommendations.
No formal county action was required at the briefing; staff will publish the revised draft for public comment and return the plan to the commission for a final hearing once edits are complete.
