Superintendent reports new student-health clinics, higher CTE credential rates and Reedsville Elementary progress

Superintendent Stover used his monthly report to update the Rockingham County Schools board on program expansions, student outcomes and construction milestones.
Stover said the district has partnered with UNC Health to expand health clinics currently at high schools into at least three middle schools and to grow mental-health services at elementary sites. "We're trying to expand those our our centers to at least 3 of our middle schools," he said, and reported plans for a ribbon-cutting at Holmes Middle School once the site is ready.
On career and technical education, Stover reported what he called a record semester: "82 percent of this current semester ... have received some sort of certification or credentials in their CTE classes," he said, and noted that the district had earned roughly 1,846 credentials to date this semester. Staff committed to provide the board with a breakdown of how many individual students participated and the guidance workload implications.
Stover also updated the board on construction of a new Reedsville Elementary School. He said project-management bids are due on the 21st and that the chair signed a state grant agreement; final county-commissioner signature is still needed to release funds. "That's kind of like the last little paperwork hurdle we have to overcome," Stover said.
Other items: Stover welcomed new safety and communications staffer Eric Gutekunz (start date Jan. 2), noted a brief Internet outage at Reidsville High that was resolved in about 30 minutes during high-school exams, and announced a student poster contest for a reading campaign with winners slated to receive certificates.
Stover said the district will continue reporting program metrics and will return requested participation and credential breakdowns to the board.
