Planning Board approves Neptune Yacht Club dock reconfiguration after navigation discussion

The Planning Board approved an administrative amendment Dec. 16 to reconfigure floating docks and shoreline access at the Neptune Yacht Club, 545 Davenport Avenue. Architect William Alicia said the change shifts a previously approved dock footprint to create a roughly 34‑foot‑wide channel (dimensions discussed in the 30–38 ft range) for vessel passage and mooring, reuses an existing gangway, slightly alters slip sizes and replaces older wooden piers with a concrete pier in some locations. The club does not propose an increase in the total number of slips.

Board members asked operational questions about navigation and slip sizes. One board member noted that larger, wide‑beam boats may be difficult to maneuver in the narrowed sections and that maneuvering could require experienced on‑site staff; applicant said the club’s staff routinely manage boat movements and that the revised layout provides sufficient width for most pleasure boats. Board members also referenced a recent marina fire on an adjacent property and said concrete piers aided firefighting access; the applicant noted the revised design retains sufficient access for emergency response. The board voted to approve the administrative amendment.
