Vendor OPA reports meal participation, surveys and program options to Poteau board
Summary
OPA representatives reviewed school meal operations for Poteau: 34% breakfast participation, ~57% lunch participation, 58,926 meals served since August and 104,000+ meals served year-to-date; they discussed surveys, menu changes and interest in summer non-congregate meal options.
Amanda Cox, director of nutrition services for OPA, presented the vendor's year-to-date statistics and program work for Poteau Public Schools at the Dec. 16 meeting. Cox said OPA recorded 58,926 meals served since August and more than 104,000 meals served year-to-date; she reported 34% breakfast participation and about 57% lunch participation districtwide and said Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) participation for K8 was 77.8%.
Cox described menu adjustments driven by annual surveys (28,267 survey responses systemwide), training for kitchen managers, and new offerings such as a "sub bar" and protein packs for breakfast and lunch. She also said OPA would like the district to consider the Child and Adult Care Food Program or non-congregate summer feeding to expand access to afternoon meals during the summer, noting that some districts choose non-congregate distribution to let students take meals home.
Cox identified support staff and leadership (Christy Keck and Jesse Cabiness referenced) and highlighted the vendor's state training site and community engagement activities. She asked board members and parents to scan a QR code for feedback to guide future menu and program improvements.
No formal board action was required; the presentation was informational and followed by finance and consent items on the agenda.
