The Tuscaloosa City Council on June 13 adopted its consent agenda and approved several individual resolutions and contracts, including a rezoning request at 1125 19th Street, multiple development agreements and professional-services contracts, and an amendment to the FY2026 general fund budget.
Planning staff described Zoning Amendment No. 24, a request from Longleaf Engineering to rezone approximately 0.18 acres at 1125 19th Street from MR-1 to MR-2 to allow construction of a duplex and four on-site parking spaces. Planning staff said the petition conforms to the future land use framework but the Planning & Zoning Commission had voted not to recommend the rezoning on Nov. 25 because of parking access and a retaining-wall constraint. The petitioner, Tom Sims of Longleaf Engineering, said the applicant (Miss Harrison) gathered 11 neighbor petitions in favor and proposed additional landscaping to offset front-yard parking. The council voted to adopt the rezoning.
Separately, the council approved several development agreements (North River Hospitality LLC amendment; Jack’s Family Restaurants; Encore Tuscaloosa), ratified the mayor’s signature on the Hopkins Building sale, authorized procurement and professional-services contracts (Southern Water Technologies Inc.; All Star Talent Inc.; Peregrine Technologies Inc.; Principal Environmental Inc.; TTL Inc.; others), and approved Amendment No. 5 to the FY2026 general fund budget.
Several minor public-works contracts and routine procurement items were adopted by voice vote. The council also authorized right-of-way acquisition for the Kicker Road sidewalk project and multiple work authorizations for roadway and slope repair projects.
With the consent agenda and related votes completed, council business moved to closing items and adjournment.
