Centennial SD schedules budget workshop to tackle deficit; board approves financial items and hears MBIT updates

Centennial School District leadership said the district will hold a public special budget workshop on Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. to begin identifying options to reduce a district budget deficit and prepare a balanced budget respectful of student outcomes and taxpayers.
At the Jan. 13 work session the board approved the schedule of bills, investments, cafeteria fund budget reports and general-fund cash-receipt summary for December 2025, approved 2025 budget transfers for December and accepted pending and preapproved paid-bill lists. Those items passed by voice vote (8–0).
Board member Mrs. Krieger pressed for changes to financial workflow, saying on the record that 'the spend has already been made' and proposing a system with pre-approval levels, consolidated vendor lists and workflow controls so district spending is authorized at the appropriate levels before payment.
Consent-agenda contract approvals recorded on the agenda included a Fox Chase Cancer Center partnership for a teen research internship (no cost to the district), a Microsoft server-product purchasing-group renewal with the Bucks County Intermediate Unit (district cost not to exceed $55,309.23), and an affiliation agreement with Holy Family University for student teaching (no cost). The board also approved overnight trip requests for William Tennant students (district cost not to exceed $1,250 and $230.20) and an AASA national conference attendance for the superintendent (district cost not to exceed $2,462).
In related regional updates, MBIT reported it received two grants (one for $260,000 and another for $70,000), described national conference presentations, international student travel and application deadlines for MBIT programs through the end of the month.
