The Caddo Parish Commission advanced a resolution to acknowledge the amended 2025 and proposed 2026 budgets for the North Louisiana Criminalistics Laboratory, while several commissioners pressed for more information about past budget issues and inter-parish funding.
Commissioner Roy Burrell said the commission has had questions about the lab's budget in recent years and asked administration to invite the organization to a future meeting for an operational and financial update. "I wanted to ask the administration if we could get an update and invite them here to kinda give us an update on where they are in terms of their operating budget," Burrell said.
Administration noted that the lab had adopted its budget and that, per standard January resolutions, a percentage of the parishes served must acknowledge adoption. The administrator also said the lab is expected to receive a $1,000,000 state infusion for 2026.
Commissioner Ryan Carter and others said they share concerns about year-over-year budget growth and asked that the lab explain how other parishes contribute to operations. The commission voted to advance the item to the Thursday regular session; the clerk recorded the motion as carrying 12-0.
Commissioners asked administration to invite lab leadership to the Thursday meeting to answer outstanding questions about funding sources, director status and operating projections.
