Summary
Delta Utilities representatives introduced the company to the commission and said the firm is focused on reliability, customer support and community engagement after acquiring local assets. Commissioners raised concerns about a recurring $10 service fee for inactive accounts and asked about assistance programs; Delta offered referrals, levelized billing and customer audits.
Delta Utilities' new local representative, Michael Jackson, introduced the company to the Caddo Parish Commission and described the firm as the new gas-only utility in the region after acquisitions of assets from CenterPoint and Entergy in 2025.
"Delta Utilities is the new, gas-only utility in this area... and we're really proud of the fact that we're up and running," Jackson said, describing the operation center and a local point person. Commissioners used the introduction as an opportunity to raise customer issues. Commissioner Grace Ann Blake recounted an autopay billing problem at her small business; Jackson responded that Delta prioritized a seamless transition and had worked to avoid service lapses.
Commissioner John Paul Young asked about a $10 monthly service fee charged on inactive accounts; Jackson said the company can refer customers to public assistance programs, offer levelized billing to smooth seasonal peaks, and perform audits on specific accounts to identify avoidable charges. "If there are individuals that you know specifically that are having issues, we certainly would like to address that personally as best as possible," Jackson said.
Next steps: Delta Utilities and commission staff plan to coordinate on public-safety and citizen outreach meetings and follow-up on individual customers identified by commissioners.
