House Energy committee sets oversight agenda: copper retirement, municipal utilities and reports

Rep. Kathleen James used the close of the weatherization update to map the committee’s near-term oversight calendar and priorities for the remainder of the week and next two weeks.
James said the committee will hold an oversight hearing on retirement of copper wire and related carrier actions (referred to alternately as Consolidated and Fidium in testimony), including FCC notice and consumer impacts; Palladium (carrier representative) will be invited to explain the process. The chair also scheduled hearings on the fiscal health of municipal utilities—inviting PUC chair McNamara, DPS Commissioner Johnson, VPSA general manager Ken Nolan and Morristown/Hyde Park manager Scott Johnston—following recent reporting about Hyde Park’s financial situation.
The committee plans to present and hear testimony on several reports (including an Agency of Natural Resources greenhouse-gas emissions report and the act 142 report). James said bill sponsors will receive 15 minutes to introduce bills to the committee, and additional witnesses (JITOC and JFO staff) will present IT modernization and program reports over the next two weeks.
No formal votes were taken; members and staff agreed to continue scheduling testimony, refine committee priorities, and follow up on materials posted to the legislative reports page.
