Longview proclaims Aspire Mentoring Day, honors Partners in Prevention and Fleet Services

Longview City Council used part of its Jan. 8 meeting to recognize community partners and city staff. The mayor read a proclamation declaring Jan. 8, 2026, as Aspire Mentoring Day and praised Partners in Prevention’s Aspire Mentoring Program, which the mayor said has 87 mentors serving 96 mentees in the city and is marking its 30th anniversary.
Mitch Randall, who recently completed a field practicum with Partners in Prevention, described program initiatives—Aspire Mentoring, Coalition for Drug Free Youth, Bridges Out of Poverty, Unity and Diversity Committee and Go With the Flow—and said mentoring builds confidence and improves academic outcomes. The mayor and council thanked volunteers and encouraged citizen involvement.
The council also recognized the Fleet Services Division for earning the Blue Seal of Excellence from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, which requires at least 75% ASE-certified technicians and full coverage of service areas by certified experts. Staff noted the fleet supports more than 500 active city vehicles.
Mayor encouraged residents to participate in mentoring and to contact Partners in Prevention for volunteer opportunities. He thanked Fleet Services for their work and highlighted the professional standards the Blue Seal represents.
