Senate committee introduces interns and new staff as session opens

MONTPELIER — The Senate Economic Development, Housing & General Affairs committee used its Jan. 6 organizational meeting to introduce members, interns and new staff and to summarize summer committee work ahead of substantive hearings.
Chair Allison Clarkson led introductions, including three student interns — Belle Scholl, Abe Moskvas and Lucy Johnson — each from the University of Vermont. Clarkson also introduced the committee’s new assistant, Kiara Mead, who described her academic background and prior civic engagement work.
Senators used opening remarks to report summer committee activities: Senator Dave Weeks described LCAR work and five school visits conducted by the Senate Education Committee; Senator Randy Brock summarized oversight committees and regional environmental work. Members said those summer activities will inform committee priorities this year.
The meeting closed after the scheduling discussion; members agreed to meet again the following morning at 9 a.m. to begin testimony from agency leaders.
