Erie County Council completes reorganization, elects vice chair unanimously; chair chosen by narrow roll call

A member nominated Terry Scottell and another member proposed Chris Drexel; after counsel advised that a motion and a second with no further discussion should proceed to a vote, the clerk conducted a roll-call vote. The clerk announced, "The motion passes with a vote of four to," indicating four affirmative votes and three opposed on the pending chair nomination. The council then nominated Chris Drexel for vice chair; after a second the roll call returned a unanimous result. The clerk announced, "The motion carries 7 0," indicating a 7–0 vote in favor of Drexel as vice chair.

A council member who was selected as chair accepted the position and urged colleagues not to "rubber stamp" items but to focus on what is "good for the people of Erie County." One council member said they would not accept an appointment to lead the finance committee and reiterated support for rotating leadership.
