Committee to hear Act 69 task force report on housing for developmentally disabled; joint appeals hearing planned

MONTPELIER — The Senate Economic Development, Housing & General Affairs committee said on Jan. 6 it will review recent task force work on housing for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and hear a separate appeals report in a planned joint session with the Natural Resources Committee.
Chair Allison Clarkson told members the Act 69 task force, which the committee originated, produced findings the panel will consider this session. “It’s estimated at the moment about 600 housing opportunities for, for these citizens of ours,” she said, summarizing the task force’s estimate.
Clarkson also described a separate appeals body report (spoken in the meeting as the “land dues review board”) and said its recommendations are posted online: “All the reports are now on our committee web page under reports and resources.” She said the committee will likely hold a joint hearing next week with the Natural Resources Committee to hear that appeals report.
The chair asked members to consult the committee web page for posted materials and indicated staff will help arrange the joint appearance with Natural Resources. No formal votes or final actions were taken during the Jan. 6 organizational meeting; the committee scheduled to reconvene the following morning at 9 a.m. to begin substantive testimony from incoming commissioners and agency officials.
The committee did not specify exact dates for the joint hearing in the Jan. 6 meeting; members said they expected it next week and asked members to flag any related joint interests with other committees.
