Deputy City Manager Laura Perry presented the Build Up Aurora capital planning package and asked council to endorse a community engagement process and next steps. Perry told council the infrastructure task force compiled a prioritized list of projects totaling $1.6 billion and proposed five focused meetings and additional public outreach to refine priorities.
Perry summarized the drivers: aging assets (city maintains more than 140 facilities and nearly 100 bridges), rapid growth increasing infrastructure needs, and limited existing capital funding. "That list totals $1,600,000,000, and that is prioritized," Perry said during the briefing.
Staff proposed a February workshop and a spring recommendation back to council (May) after the infrastructure task force reviews public input. Council agreed to the direction and asked staff to develop meeting logistics and include boards, commissions, and stakeholder invitations.
What’s next: Staff will organize five stakeholder meetings, present more detailed project information at the February 7 winter workshop, and bring recommendations to council in May for potential action.
