The Sellersburg Town Council on Jan. 12 approved a contract to convert the electrical service at the Willow's 2 sewer lift station from single-phase to three-phase. Town staff recommended awarding the work to Bekner (Beckner) Electric for $30,002.61 after soliciting multiple quotes.
Town engineering staff explained the change is intended to enable use of variable frequency drive pumps and reduce repeated callouts: "More cost effective, more efficient over time... less call outs, less issues to residents as far as service is provided," staff said, urging the council to approve the award as reinvestment in critical infrastructure.
Council moved and seconded the contract award and approved it by voice vote. Staff said the conversion will reduce maintenance and improve station reliability and that some work could not be performed in-house, requiring a contractor.
Next steps: Staff will execute the contract and schedule the conversion work. The project is expected to reduce outages at the lift station and lower ongoing maintenance calls once complete.
