The Sellersburg Town Council voted to adopt Ordinance 2026-OR-001 on Jan. 12 authorizing the disposal of surplus personal property — specifically, trading in a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 — and to proceed with buying a replacement truck for town operations.
Public commenter Charles Pierce asked why the town was disposing of the 2019 Dodge Ram, noting the vehicle’s mileage and trade-in value: "I had a question about this ordinance... this is the one that's saying that, disposing of surplus or worthless personal property... It sounds pretty nice to have only so many miles on it." Town staff and council answered with details about bids and trade-in terms.
Town staff presented the retail buyer's order and bid summary: the retail price was listed at $65,035 with trade-in credit of $26,000, producing a sale price and final town cash difference of $32,470.50 after fees. Council members discussed fleet uniformity, the addition of a plow kit for snow removal use and warranty benefits for the new vehicle.
After motion and second, the council adopted the ordinance and then voted to waive the reading; minutes record the ordinance adoption as approved by voice vote. Council members noted the trade occurred after review of bids and to maintain fleet consistency and readiness for winter operations.
Next steps: Staff will effect the trade-in and process purchase paperwork consistent with Indiana statute cited in the ordinance (procedures for trade-ins and surplus disposal), and record the transaction in the town's asset records.
