The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees elected Adam Mayberry its board president on Jan. 13, 2026, following nominations during the board’s annual reorganization. Trustee JJ Phoenix moved to elect Mayberry; Clerk Alex Woodley seconded and the motion carried 7‑0.
Trustees also selected Alex Woodley as vice president after Trustee Diane Nicolette nominated him and Trustee Christine Hall moved the motion. The board approved the vice‑president appointment by voice vote. For clerk, Trustee Diane Nicolette nominated Trustee Christine Hall; President Mayberry called the motion and it was seconded and approved.
The elections concluded the board’s reorganization agenda. The board recessed to allow gavel and seating changes and members offered tributes to outgoing President Elizabeth “Beth” Smith. President Mayberry officially reconvened the meeting and continued with the regular agenda, including approval of the consent agenda.
“Motion carries 7 to 0,” President Mayberry said after the vote electing him president. Trustees described the leadership transition as orderly; a public commenter, Pablo Navadaran, expressed support for the incoming leadership during the nominations.
The board will next meet Jan. 27 for a 10 a.m. work session and 2 p.m. regular meeting, when the new officers will preside over board business.
