Board amends agenda, approves immediate search for special education supervisor

"Let's be bold," Mr. Liggett said when moving to amend the agenda; the motion to add the item and begin the search was seconded and passed by voice vote. Administration explained the building-level caseloads and case-management demands: the high school caseload is reported as the largest (approximately 280-300 students), with middle-level caseloads around 212, and district supervisors handling early intervention, ESY and other specialized responsibilities.
Administration said the earlier hiring could provide immediate relief and expand the candidate pool; business administration noted that an interim partial-year hire would come from unassigned fund balance for the current year and be budgeted fully for 2026-27.
Next steps: the board authorized administration to initiate the search immediately. Administration will return with a job description, budget implications and recommended start date.
