Superintendent announces University of Arizona job-shadow partnership, Feb. 19 registration carnival and facility projects

Superintendent Segota Jones told the Glendale Elementary School District governing board on Jan. 8 that the district has launched a partnership with the University of Arizona for a one-day job-shadow program to expose college students to district workplaces; the meeting included a report that the first U of A participant shadowed the district IT department.
Jones also announced districtwide preschool and kindergarten registration will be held Feb. 19 at the System of Care as a carnival-style event. She described a plan in which every school will host a table, bring mascots, provide on-site registration, and use marketing (QR codes and a raffle) to boost turnout. Jones said partners will provide refreshments and support; district staff leads for the outreach were named in the meeting remarks.
The superintendent reviewed ongoing maintenance and construction work, including roofing work at Horizon (with temporary smells reported), a planned new parking lot at that site, media center renovations, HVAC work and fence painting. Jones acknowledged that maintenance disrupts instruction at times and said district teams try to schedule work around instructional time. The district also announced soccer championships on Monday, Jan. 12.
