Council approves award recommendation for Century Park improvements, citing drainage and ADA fixes

Greer City Council on Jan. 13 approved a capital projects department recommendation to award the Century Park Improvements contract (Project 2026‑009) to the lowest responsive bidder after receiving nine bids.
Project staff described the scope as drainage improvements and road work at a Century Park entrance, addition of stormwater piping at identified hotspots, construction of stairs and railings to reduce undesirable shortcutting across sloped areas, and targeted sawcutting around play features. Funding for the improvements was identified as the hospitality and general funds.
Council members asked whether the project was within budget and how runoff would be conveyed from the hillside to the creek. Project staff said the award recommendation falls just below budget and outlined that the parks department has installed riprap and an initial drainage ditch; the awarded work will pick up that effort with box collars, piping to a catch basin and conveyance to the stream.
A motion to receive the award recommendation was made, seconded and approved by roll call. Staff said they will provide construction drawings to council members who asked to review the detailed design.
