City staff briefed the council on zone case 788‑B Jan. 13, describing a request by R2M Engineering LLC for Lubbock Turf LLC to rezone property near North Ivory Avenue and East Erskine Street from SF‑2 (low‑density single family) to RE (residential estates). Staff said the property is currently used as a turf farm and that the owner sought rezoning after applying for a permit to build a barn; under SF‑2 the accessory structure would require a primary dwelling, whereas RE would allow the accessory barn to be constructed.
Miss Sager told the council staff mailed 166 notifications and received one in‑boundary favor and one out‑of‑boundary opposition; Planning and Zoning recommended unanimous approval and staff had no objection. The council opened and closed the public hearing with no members of the public speaking and then approved the rezoning by voice vote.
Staff noted the request is consistent with the future land‑use designation for low‑density residential and would preserve the possibility of future residential subdivision while regularizing the property’s current agricultural/turf use.
