Greer swears in three council members, honors retirees and certifies fire department SAFE designation

Greer’s City Council opened its Jan. 13 meeting with a swearing-in ceremony for new and returning officials, recognition of longtime city employees and a public-safety accolade for the fire department.
Mayor Danner administered remarks introducing the evening’s ceremonial business and Judge Mims administered oaths for Charles Lander, sworn in as councilmember for District 4; Paul Lamb, beginning his first term representing District 6; and Jean Gibson, who returns as commissioner of public works. The mayor invited family members forward for photographs after each oath.
The council presented certificates of appreciation to several retirees, citing decades of service to city departments. The mayor acknowledged Dale Artemann for 29 years of service and other retirees for 10–21 years of service.
The council also recognized the Greer Fire Department for earning a SAFE (sexual assault forensic excellence) designation, which the city said would make Greer the second fire department in the state to hold the designation. Amanda White of the South Carolina Victims Assistance Network said the designation “is a huge deal” and affirmed the department’s commitment to trauma‑informed, survivor‑centered care.
Mayor Danner closed the ceremonial portion by thanking the retirees and welcoming the newly sworn officials. The council then moved to regular business, beginning with departmental reports and a scheduled workshop later in the week.
