Davidson County recognizes corporal Billy Medford; Sheriff Richie Simmons announces retirement

Simmons said he filed formal notice that his last day of work will be Jan. 23, 2026 and that his retirement will be effective Feb. 1, 2026. "I've been honored and blessed to be able to serve 31 years with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office," Simmons said. Commissioners and staff thanked him and offered well wishes; multiple speakers described Medford as an "exemplary employee" and noted his long service and membership in the honor guard.
The board also presented a moment of recognition and asked Medford to come forward for a photograph. No formal action about succession or appointments was recorded in the public portion of the meeting.
