Nantucket Cultural Council approves Nov. 10 minutes, confirms grant allocations and contract process

At a remote meeting conducted via video conference, the Nantucket Cultural Council approved its Nov. 10 meeting minutes and reviewed next steps for disbursing recently approved grants, support staff Dina Weatherly said.

Weatherly said the warrant for the grants was approved at last week’s Select Board meeting and that “the grant allocations have been approved for dispersal.” She said she updated the council’s portal and is preparing draft contracts to be reviewed by the town finance department before they are sent to recipient organizations for signature.

The move to approve the minutes came on a motion identified in the meeting as moved by Jack and seconded by Tony. The council approved the Nov. 10 minutes on a roll-call vote with Barbara Tibbets, Tony Wagner, Jack, Kendall Graham and Bethany Oliver voting yes.

Weatherly detailed the contract and reporting process in response to a member’s question: organizations must return signed contracts with required documentation before funds are dispersed, and after dispersal recipients must submit a follow-up form confirming that funds were used for the purposes stated in their applications — often a short letter and a photo. She said some grantees invite council staff to events as part of post-award reporting. ‘‘So the approval message has been sent out to all of the organizations,’’ Weatherly said, and she expected draft contracts to be finished by the following day so the finance department could proceed with disbursement processing.

Weatherly also said the cultural district website has been updated with local events and announced the council’s next meeting on Feb. 9, when she plans to provide another grant-cycle update.

The council adjourned after a motion by Barbara, seconded by Tony, which carried on a unanimous roll-call vote. No members of the public spoke during the meeting’s public-comment period.
