One central office official said timelines might be four months for limited front‑entry work, but that adding work such as cafeteria access lifts would lengthen the schedule. Committee members asked whether the district or the town would be liable for borrowing if large capital work were required; administrators said liability depends on funding source and that larger borrowing decisions would trigger school committee votes and town approvals.
Reconfiguration options: administrators also described alternatives to reopening Ashby, including redistributing programs among existing facilities (Hawthorne Brook, Spalding, Varnum Brook) and potential MSBA considerations for larger projects. The committee asked for clearer scenarios on staffing implications (grade configurations, required administrators, nurses and other positions) and for the ADA/walkthrough report to be shared with the school committee as soon as it is available.
