An unnamed village chaplain told the Village of Dolton Board of Trustees meeting that the village will begin a monthly Dolton Community Night of Prayer beginning Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Abundant Living Christian Center, and that a chaplaincy team will provide pastoral visits and support across the community.
The chaplain said the program will distribute a monthly calendar of prayer topics residents can use at home, and that the intercessory team — drawn from nearly every local church — will visit village departments, senior homes and nursing facilities to pray and offer pastoral care. "We will be praying until heaven gets the news," the chaplain said.
The chaplain listed specific prayer targets as the police and fire departments, Village Hall staff and Public Works, and said the office will minister to the sick and shut-in. The speaker also described services for families experiencing a death: residents may contact the chaplain's office, which will attend homegoing services and visit hospitals and hospice patients "the same thing that you would have someone do at your home church," the chaplain said.
The speaker said the village will issue a resolution connected to homegoing services but did not provide the text, timing or whether the Board of Trustees had voted on or approved a resolution during the meeting. The chaplain thanked Mayor House and the board of trustees for supporting the initiative and said future prayer nights will rotate among participating churches and some senior homes.
No formal motion or vote on the resolution was recorded in the transcript.
