Dolton Park District details spring installations, grants and Needles Park talks

Cleo Jones, president of the Dolton Park District, told residents the district will install most of its spring projects in April and described recent grant awards and partnerships intended to expand recreational opportunities.
Jones listed near-term work: a fitness course at Triangle Park (154th and Greenwood), playground replacements at Candy Cane and Meadow Lanes, Phase 2 improvements at Blackstone Park (walking trail and a planned baseball field), and a projected Dalton Baseball Complex on 138th Street. She said a $188,000 grant has been approved for a parking lot outside the community building and noted recently awarded grants for electric-vehicle charging stations at the main parking lot, the annex lot and Needles Park.
On Needles Park specifically, Jones said the district is negotiating with several private vendors and described talks with Top Shelf Golf and other potential sports-complex partners as exploratory. “We are engaged in several contractual individuals talking about Needles Park,” she said, adding that detailed agreements were not finalized.
Why it matters: capital projects affect parks access, youth programming and local construction and can require coordination with the village and grant funders. Jones urged residents to supply email addresses for invitations and said the district will announce public meetings and renderings as timelines solidify.
Jones also said the park district is preparing for its centennial in 2027 and will increase community events as part of that planning. She encouraged attendance at park-district meetings and emphasized safety and partnership with the village for operations and programming.
