He urged exploring options used by neighboring Sandy City, including a decal system that restricts canyon-bound traffic while allowing local decal holders to pass.
Burrell also said the police chief has sought UDOT support and potential state funds to pay overtime for roving officers during problem hours; staff confirmed that additional funding discussions are ongoing and that UDOT has engineering constraints in winter visibility for some countermeasures.
Council agreed to pursue further conversations with UDOT, the sheriff’s office and neighboring cities to develop a set of operational and engineering measures for the next ski season. Staff said a meeting with UDOT and partner jurisdictions is scheduled for early June to explore solutions and funding.
