The Cottonwood Heights board of canvassers on Nov. 18 certified the results of the Nov. 2025 municipal election, formalizing the Salt Lake County Clerk's tabulation and appending the totals to Resolution 2025-01. City Attorney Shane Topham said the county office "tabulated all the results on the recent election on behalf of the city" and that the returns were attached to the resolution for required filings with county and state staff.
Topham read the winners: "Galen Benyon was elected to a 4 year term as mayor. Sean Newell was elected to a 4 year term, representing council district 3, and Ellen Burrell was elected to a 4 year term representing council district 4." The council then considered Declaration 2025-01, a motion to approve the canvas of the municipal general elections.
Council Member Matt Holton moved to approve Declaration 2025-01; Council Member Suzanne Hyland seconded. The record shows roll-call affirmation during the canvass: Council Member Holton (yes), Council Member Hyland (yes), Council Member Newell (yes) and Member Burrell (yes). Following the vote, the board of canvassers adjourned.
The certification completes the local paperwork necessary to finalize council and mayoral terms; city staff will file the required documents with Salt Lake County and state authorities, as noted by Topham. No appeals, challenges or further procedural actions were recorded during the canvass segment of the meeting.
