Cottonwood Heights City Council on Tuesday approved two related land-use actions changing a 0.48-acre parcel at 3425 East Bengal/Bridal Boulevard from neighborhood commercial to residential use.
A motion to adopt Ordinance 4 52, a general-plan amendment to designate the site as residential medium density, was made and seconded after council and planning-commission review. Council Member Hyland urged support, saying she had "listened to your deliberations. It was very thoughtful. It was very thorough," and noting the parcel was "inherited from the county" and that converting it to residential multifamily represented the best available outcome given neighborhood concerns.
Council then moved to approve Ordinance 4 53, rezoning the same 0.48-acre property to RM (residential multifamily) and amending the zoning map. Both ordinances were adopted by unanimous recorded vote.
The council recorded affirmative votes from Council Members Holton, Hyland, Newell and Burrell and the presiding official on the measures. Economic Development Director Jim Spung was cited during discussion as having worked on options and outcomes for the site.
With the votes, the city will update the general plan designation and zoning for 3425 East Bengal/Bridal Boulevard to allow medium-density residential development; implementation steps and timelines were not specified at the meeting.
The council moved quickly through the item, noting prior public discussion and planning-commission deliberations, and proceeded to the next agenda items.
