The Lebanon City Council approved a $1,400 food-and-beverage grant to the Lebanon High School soccer program at its Jan. 12 meeting to purchase four portable goals for use on the football turf.
Scott Page, representing the Golden Goal Club boosters, told the council the club seeks four movable goals at $350 each so soccer players can practice on turf and better prepare for matches against larger schools that use turf. "Turf acts a lot differently than grass does," Page said, explaining that current grass fields are unavailable in winter and that indoor practice space is limited due to school construction.
Councilmembers asked whether the high-school athletic booster program could cover the purchase; Page said the boosters are short on funds and typically contribute smaller amounts (about $500). The council discussed past instances where the city had funded other sports boosters (football, softball) but noted soccer had not previously received funding.
An unidentified councilmember moved to approve the $1,400 request and Councilmember Sandra Jasenowski seconded; the council approved the motion by voice vote with no opposition recorded. Page said the check will be made out to the athletic department and that Phil Levine has been notified to place it in the proper account.
The grant covers the specific purchase; council members did not attach additional conditions at the meeting and moved on to other business.
