"I submitted this on behalf of the Economic Development Commission, a request for $10,000 for a video campaign," Unidentified Speaker 5 said, adding the working title is "Celebrate Germantown." The proposal described short videos for social media aimed at encouraging residents and visitors to patronize local businesses and to promote major community events.
Commissioners debated whether the Economic Development Commission or the Tourism Commission should lead the program, and several members said the scope needs clarification. Unidentified Speaker 4 said the $10,000 would function as seed money and described an operational plan in which staff time would be tracked and the funding would be allocated as used rather than paid per finished video: "It's not gonna be $10,000 per video. We're looking, gosh, I think it was $500 a video." (Unidentified Speaker 4).
Administrator (Unidentified Speaker 5) and other members recommended monthly check-ins so the commission can track how much of the $10,000 has been spent. The motion to approve the request was moved by Unidentified Speaker 4, seconded by Unidentified Speaker 5, and carried with one abstention recorded (Unidentified Speaker 2).
The meeting record indicates the commission will retain any unused funds in the tourism commission fund and asked staff to report back with more-defined scope and regular expenditure summaries.
