On Jan. 13 the PSD Board unanimously approved a resolution endorsing Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance (01/19/2026). John Miller IV of Colorado State University described Monday’s event and activities planned at the student center.
The Poudre School District R-1 Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a resolution supporting Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 19, 2026.
Board member Connor Duffy moved the resolution and received a second; the board then conducted a roll-call vote and recorded the motion as passed unanimously. President Jessica Zamora called the vote and the board recorded ayes from Carla Bayes, Connor Duffy, Kevin Havela, Jessica Zamora and Karanda Ziegler.
Before the vote, John Miller IV, director of the Black African Cultural Center at Colorado State University, described plans for Monday’s celebration at CSU’s Lory Student Center. Miller said the event will run from about 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring a 45-minute program followed by a range of activities and community performances, pop-up historical-preservation exhibits, a virtual tour option and opportunities for civic engagement such as letter-writing and storytelling spaces. “We have a lot of different options for folks of different ages and interests,” Miller said, describing both an on-site mile-long tour and a fully virtual tour.
The board’s resolution does not create a district holiday but records the board’s support for local observances and partner events honoring Dr. King’s life and legacy. Board members thanked Miller and noted district participation in the CSU event was a point of pride.
The resolution was adopted as part of the meeting’s action items; no further district policy change or budgetary allocation was associated with the vote.
