Lynn Brott was elected board chair for 2026 by acclamation, and the board ratified a full slate of officers at the Jan. 12 meeting, including Lindsey King as vice chair, Josh Perkowitz as clerk and Amanda Hallwager as treasurer.
The reorganizational portion of the meeting focused on administrative housekeeping and routine governance. The board established the 2026 regular meeting schedule (second and fourth Mondays at 5:30 p.m., Room 195, East Grand Forks Senior High), designated US Bank, Friends and Bank and Trust, MSDLAF and Ultima Bank as official depositories, and delegated signature authority for petty cash, CDs, activity accounts and transfers to Kevin Grover, Carla Ashari and the board treasurer.
Board members also designated the law firm Squires, Waldspurger, and Mace as district legal counsel and named The Exponent as the district’s official newspaper for 2026. On compensation, the board approved a flat annual stipend of $5,800 for school board members.
On district business, the board passed a resolution directing administration to prepare recommendations for reductions in programs and positions as presented in the board book; the roll call recorded the vote as 6–0 in favor. Separately, the board adopted the district’s annual resolution establishing combined polling places and hours for school elections not held on statewide election days for Independent School District 595 (vote 6–0).
The board approved the EGFAA master agreement for 2025–2027 as presented. A board member thanked administration and the negotiating committee and said the agreement represents roughly a 10% increase spread over two years with some built-in supervisory and activity pay clarifications. The agreement was approved by voice vote.
The board authorized administration to advertise for health insurance provider bids, specifying coverage to begin July 1, 2026, and that bids must be submitted by 5 p.m. on March 10, 2026. A motion to approve payment of claims (checks 130762–130912 and electronic fund transfers) in the amount of $1,458,154.13 was moved, seconded and carried.
The meeting closed with brief board-member comments and an announcement that the next regular meeting will be Jan. 26, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
The motions and routine resolutions adopted at this meeting are procedural steps the board takes annually to organize governance and maintain district operations.
