Floyd County adds Hope Road continuation to six‑year road plan

The Floyd County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve a resolution adding the continuation of Hope Road back into the county's six‑year secondary road plan.

Supervisor Clark moved the resolution after staff and board members reviewed recent secondary construction and drainage needs in several districts. The motion was seconded and carried in a roll call in which Miss Cookenbrook, Mr. Booth, Mr. Cox, Mr. Phillips and Mr. Terman were recorded as voting yes.

Board members and public works staff discussed multiple road maintenance items leading into the vote, including ditching, top coating and the cost/feasibility of completing lingering segments of projects that were previously left unfinished. Staff reported winter patching and gravel work across several roads, and supervisors emphasized the need to avoid partial projects that leave roads incomplete.

The action adds the Hope Road continuation to the prioritized project pipeline and directs staff to prepare the formal resolution language and next steps for inclusion in VDOT scheduling and the county's construction program. The board did not set a construction date; staff said design and preliminary engineering will continue and the item will move through VDOT coordination.

The vote follows earlier discussion of broader road priorities and a separate VDOT high‑risk road scoring exercise, which the board asked staff to finalize and resubmit to VDOT for potential funding and scheduling.
