Caleb Thornhill, the city's director of engineering, described the monuments as obelisks with an approximate 15-foot obelisk portion topped by a bronze eagle that brings total height to roughly 16.5–17 feet. Thornhill said the Perot family is donating the bronze eagles and provided renderings and design drawings for the project.
Thornhill said the monuments will be located on the north side near the pedestrian crossing and that the engineering department would manage construction. A motion to approve the contract passed unanimously, 8–0.
The council did not discuss additional design elements beyond the renderings shown; Thornhill said staff would consider adding interpretive elements or a timeline along the walkway if council requested it in the future. The city manager is authorized to execute necessary documents to move the project forward.
