Superintendent Jennifer Green told the board the district has taken steps to fill multiple classroom vacancies and to strengthen districtwide staffing.
"This is probably the best report that we have had in a very long time," Green said, summarizing hires and partner placements that filled positions at several schools. She announced that Asia Mercer was hired as communications coordinator and that a director of career‑focused education will start on Jan. 26. Green also said the district identified a Medicaid billing supervisor and other districtwide positions.
Dr. Ursula Kelly Walsh, director of the Bussey Early Childhood Center, gave the board a January report on early‑childhood programs. She listed current enrollment snapshots — Early Head Start 14, Head Start 58, GSRP 72 — and said average daily attendance rates were in the low‑to‑mid‑80s. Dr. Walsh reported meal service counts for December and described ongoing child‑find work and teacher observations used to trigger referrals.
Dr. Walsh said the program recently completed an FA1 review and is preparing for a larger FA2 review; staff will hold biweekly meetings with program leads to address reviewer feedback and ensure compliance with Head Start standards.
Trustees asked for additional detail on how federal immunization guidance would be reflected in reporting; Dr. Walsh said the district will stick with its current immunization chart until federal or program management guidance is confirmed. Board members also requested that in‑kind contributions be reflected on updated reports.
The superintendent and director emphasized the district’s move‑management efforts and noted partner organizations have helped fill specialized positions while the district transitions students across multiple campuses.
