The Southfield Board of Education swore in Janae Anderson as its newest trustee during the board’s public meeting Wednesday evening.
Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Kamisha Gantt administered the oath and praised Anderson’s record of public service and child‑welfare work. "Mrs. Anderson has had the welfare of children ... for many, many years," Gantt said during the ceremony, adding that Anderson had served in court and community roles that supported families.
Board President Talisha Belk introduced Anderson to the assembled trustees and attendees and invited a family photo after the oath. Members of the board and community officials offered congratulations after the ceremony.
After the swearing‑in, Oakland County Commissioner Yolanda Smith Charles presented a county proclamation honoring school board members. The proclamation recognizes January as school board recognition month and highlights Oakland County’s 28 local school districts and more than 175,000 students served. "We thank you for your dedication to our children and to public education," Smith Charles said while addressing the board.
The ceremony concluded with brief remarks of appreciation and a reminder that the newly appointed trustee will participate in upcoming board business.
The board moved on to regular agenda items after the welcoming remarks.
