City commissioners on Jan. 12 approved two downtown/CRA items: a disbursement of up to $59,300 to GAI Consultants for landscape-architectural design and a master plan for Lewis Fort Park additions, and a CRA commercial-facade grant awarding up to $6,000 (75% of an $8,000 estimate) to Bounds for visible façade repairs on West Newberry Road.
Staff explained the park work would produce a draft and final master plan, conceptual cost estimates and a final summary presentation. The $59,300 would cover survey, stormwater and capacity analysis, layout options and probable cost estimates to allow the commission to make informed decisions on park amenities and future construction funding. Commissioners expressed interest in ensuring engineering and stormwater capacity were included in the scope.
For the facade grant, staff said the proposed work included replacing faded metal panels and repairing damaged wood trim; the grant covers improvements visible from the street. The commission approved both items by motion.
