The Elko County School District Board of Trustees elected Jeff Durham as its new president and selected a clerk and representatives to several district and external committees at its regular meeting.
Board chair called for nominations for president under the reorganization agenda item. Durham accepted a nomination; Brooke Ballard also was nominated. Following voice voting and a short procedure to allocate clerk and other roles, the board declared Durham president-elect and separately approved Susan as clerk after a hand vote. The board then confirmed representatives to the Debt Management Commission, NASB (legislative liaison, director, alternate), the STARS committee chair, the AB519 committee representative and the attendance-review board by acclamation or voice vote.
The reorganization proceeded without extended debate. Board members said the appointments were intended to preserve continuity while distributing outreach responsibilities across trustees. “I’ll give it everything I’ve got,” Durham said after being chosen, and he listed priorities including budget work, attendance, math and reading proficiency and anti-bullying efforts.
The board made the appointments during the reorganization item and then moved on to regular business. Several trustees asked staff to add meeting times or short notes to the list of external committees so future trustees and the public can see when those bodies typically meet.
The meeting reflected a routine leadership transition; no formal litigation, budget approval, or policy votes were attached to these appointments.
