Commission OKs $342,000 engineering contract for Tanglewood water tower project

The commission approved on Jan. 12 a task order engaging Woodard & Curran to provide engineering services for a water-main extension and elevated storage tank to address capacity, fire flow redundancy and future demand for the Tanglewood area.
Rance Green, utilities and public works director, presented the task order estimating $342,000 for engineering services, contingent on final approval from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The contract includes three phases: bidding services, construction administration, and an optional resident project representative. Staff recommended authorizing the city manager to approve change orders not to exceed 15% of the contract amount.
Staff said the project is part of the city’s capital improvement plan and would be funded through FDEP loans and grants; bidding was expected to begin the week following the meeting, with a construction start around June 2026 and anticipated completion around May 2027. Commission approved the staff recommendation by motion; the public offered no comment on the item.
