Board members received a construction update on Jan. 13 showing steady progress at the new high school and a schedule that keeps the district on track for fall occupancy.
The construction presenter (Speaker 10) displayed photos showing the main entry, two‑story classroom wings, cafeteria and the learning stairs/media center in place. The presenter said windows are installed — a milestone for interior work — and that the science labs and gymnasium are taking shape. "We're looking at a substantial completion in the April, May window," Speaker 10 said, adding that final completion is expected in May–June and that occupancy work would occur in June to be ready for August staff and students.
The project is reported at about 78.5% completion while payments to date are about 70% of contract value. The construction budget still carries contingency funds: the contractor contingency is largely used (78% used), the design contingency has exceeded its original amount (noted as over 200% use), and owner contingency increased by 29%. After accounting for identified potential impacts (~$560,000 in scope adjustments), Speaker 10 said roughly $583,000 remained available in contingencies.
Board members asked about scheduling a site walk; staff (Speaker 8) said multiple dates would be emailed to board members and recommended midday tours when workers are on lunch to reduce active equipment. The presenter reiterated that demolition of old buildings would begin after occupancy, with second‑phase site work starting once buildings are vacated.
What’s next: Staff will propose multiple tour dates for board members; construction will continue toward substantial completion in spring with contingency monitoring and planned owner decisions about any remaining funds.
