The Laredo Commission for Women agreed to organize voter-registration drives for the community as the March primary approaches, noting time-sensitive registration deadlines and opportunities at naturalization ceremonies.

Commission members were told the elections office staff were out of town for the week, meaning the commission should plan drives for the following week to meet the city'set timelines. Members emphasized using monthly naturalization ceremonies as an outreach channel; commissioners estimated those events draw roughly 100 new citizens each month.

The commission also set internal administrative deadlines: several members were reminded to submit required documentation by Jan. 16. The group discussed deputizing volunteers and distributing paperwork so that registrations could be completed in about 15 minutes once the elections office resumed normal hours.

Danielle Burns, assistant library director, said the commission'related agenda items are scheduled to go before the city council on Feb. 17 for procedural approval of event items and materials.

The commission agreed to coordinate schedules, assign volunteers and begin outreach soon after elections staff return, to allow time for volunteer training and appointments. The group reconvened on logistics and will report back at the Feb. 10 meeting at the Laredo Public Library.
