MABLETON — The Mableton City Council selected Councilman Ron Davis as mayor pro tem on the council’s first meeting of 2026 after an initial 3–3 tie that led to candidate remarks and a revote.
Mayor Owens opened nominations under the city charter. Councilman TJ Ferguson nominated Ron Davis; Councilwoman Keisha Jeffcoat nominated herself. After the first round of voice voting produced three votes for each candidate, the mayor reopened the floor to let the nominees speak before a second vote.
Davis told the council he has deep ties to Mableton and pledged to “give you a 110%,” while Jeffcoat outlined her two years of service as mayor pro tem and said she would continue to be a “consensus builder.” The revote resulted in enough support for Davis to be declared mayor pro tem.
The election followed the council’s procedures for nominations and voice votes at an organizational meeting. Mayor Owens announced the result and invited Davis to address the council; Davis thanked colleagues and residents for the opportunity.
The meeting then moved to appointments and other business. The swearing-in of other council members proceeded later in the meeting before the council adjourned to a reception.
The council’s minutes will record the formal vote counts and roster for the official record; the meeting transcript shows an initial 3–3 split and a later revote that produced a winning margin for Davis.
